Minister of Transport and Communications of Kazakhstan Berik Kamaliyev announced his intention to initiate amendments to the Administrative Code to enhance responsibility of airlines and airports for delays of regular flights, Tengrinews.kz reports referring to the Ministry’s press-service. Kamaliyev made the announcement in a meeting with heads of airports on aviation security and development of airports’ infrastructure. Representatives of Air Astana and Euro-Asia Air airlines, Samruk-Kazyna fund and law enforcement bodies also took part in the meeting. “Administrative responsibility of top managers of airlines and airports is going to be toughened. To do so the Administrative Code will be amended. In spite of the measure take to improve the situation the issues of flight delays still remains acute,” the Ministry’s message said. Kamaliyev reminded that in early July President of Kazakhstan Nursultan Nazarbayev criticized the major airlines of Kazakhstan Air Astana for frequent delays of flights. Work is being done to improve the situation, the Minister said. “An emergency response center has been created to monitor flights in Almaty and Astana airports on daily basis. The number of flights between Almaty and Astana performed by alternative airlines has been increased,” he said.
