Representatives of the CIS (Commonwealth of Independent States) Anti-Terrorist Center consider inclusion of Kazakhstan into the specially designated countries list by US Homeland Security Department groundless, Interfax-Kazakhstan reports. “Management of the Anti-Terrorist Center of the CIS countries is very puzzled over the reasons behind the US Homeland Security Department's decision to include Kazakhstan into the list of so called “specially designated countries,” the Center’s head Andrey Novikov said. According to him, Kazakhstan banned activities of 14 terroristic and extremists organizations at its territory in court and takes “all measures to eliminate sources of unrest.” Novikov also assured that Kazakhstan is performing “unprecedentedly effective work to underminme activists of extremist and terrorist groups and maintain closest ties with traditional confessions and religions.” Earlier Tengrinews.kz English reported that the US Department of Homeland Security added Kazakhstan into the list of specially designated countries. The list includes countries whose citizens have to undergo thorough checks on involvement in terrorist organizations, a so called Third Agency Check. Kazakhstan Ministry of Foreign Affairs has already made a statement in regards to this development. Secretary of Nur Otan Party Kairat Satybaldy has also commented on this decision of the US agency.
