Railing of the first line of the subway has been completed in Almaty, KazTAG reports citing press-service of Almatymetrokurylys (Almaty subway construction company). Almatymetrokurylys has successfully completed the works on assembling the rolling rail in the left tunnel of the first subway line. This fully completed the large-scale railing works in tunnels of the first subway line,” the press-service's message states. Run-in testing of the rolling equipment between four stations - Raiymbek, Zhibek Zholy, Almaly and Abai is now being done. “The latest method of railing on solid-cast reinforced-concrete base was used for the subway railing. The upper rail layer is a jointless way on solid reinforced-concrete base. This provides for greater safety, comfort and increases the lifetime. This state-of-the-art technology is currently used only in a few countries of Western Europe. This is the first time it is used in the CIS (Commonwealth of Independent States),” the press-release states. The first stage of Almaty subway is scheduled to start operating in December 2011, before the 20th anniversary of Kazakhstan's independence. The first line will include 7 stations, its length is 8.56 km.
