Kazakhstan President Nursultan Nazarbayev started construction of the third energy block of Ekibastuz Hydro Electric Station via teleconference bridge, Tengrinews.kz reports. “I would like to remind that before collapse of the Soviet Union we managed to build two blocks out of the planned eight. Now, having agreed with Russia’s president, we started construction of the third 500 megawatt block. You all see the number of construction sites in the country. All these industries cannot operate without energy. Ekibastuz is the major source of energy generation in Kazakhstan. It will require $1 billion of investments. Besides the new construction, the Ekibastuz Hydro Electric Station will be refurbished. All this will help developing our country’s economy,” Nursultan Nazarbayev emphasized speaking at the Industrial-innovation forum called Let's build strong Kazakhstan together! in Astana. The President also made a virtual tour of construction of Zhetygen-Korgas railroad in Almaty oblast. He was told that the new railroad will shorten the route and increase its capacity. The construction works involve 4 thousand people. Railroad is expected to be launched in 2014. An overall cost of the project is $770 million. Nursultan Nazarbayev wished luck to all constructors and asked them to make sure the project is launched on time.
