Participants of the international expedition to K2, also known as Chogori, will ascent to the intermediate camp today, June 29, there they will spend their first acclimatization night, Tengrinews.kz reports. After one night in the Italian intermediate camp the group of Maksut Zhumayev and Vassiliy Pivtsov from Kazakhstan and Austrian alpinist Gerlinda Kaltenbrunner will try to reach the Advance Base Camp (ABC). Earlier Tengrinews.kz English reported that the team's plan for this week is to move all the required equipment over to the advance camp and prepare to start working at Chogori. Bad weather may change the expedition’s plans though. The first advancement to K2 from the base camp was delayed because of rain and wind. The goal of the expedition is to ascent the most northern eight-thousander: the 8611 meter tall Chogori. It is located in the Karakorum mountain range in Kashmir province (at the border between Pakistan and China). This is the sixth attempt to ascent K2 for Zhumayev.
