Tennis: Putintseva makes first Grand Slam quarter-final

Kazakhstan's Yulia Putintseva reached her first Grand Slam quarter-final on Wednesday after defeating Spanish 12th seed Carla Suarez Navarro 7-5, 7-5 at the French Open, AFP reports.

Kazakhstan's Yulia Putintseva reached her first Grand Slam quarter-final on Wednesday after defeating Spanish 12th seed Carla Suarez Navarro 7-5, 7-5 at the French Open, AFP reports.

Putintseva, 21, the youngest player left in the draw, edged the first set lasting 72 minutes and wrapped up victory after Suarez Navarro dropped serve for the sixth time.

Putintseva will play defending champion Serena Williams for a place in the semi-finals.
