Kazakhstanis were laying flowers in front of the Russian Embassy and Consulate General in Almaty and Astana expressing their deep condolences to families of the victims of Airbus 321 crash, Tengrinews reports.

Early Saturday morning, Airbus 321 performing flight 9268 operated by Russian Kogalymavia airline crashed in a mountainous Sinai Peninsula killing all 224 people on board with Russians being a majority, including 7 crew members, one citizen of Belarus and four two citizens of Ukraine. Out of 224 people, 17 were children.

Some people were returning home from their first vacation abroad. One couple had a honeymoon, Russian sources said.

Some officials said that technical fault most likely caused the crash, as one of the pilots had complained about the plane’s condition earlier. However, Kogalymavia management ruled out technical failure and human error as potential causes of the incident, claiming that there was an external impact on the plane.

Yet, Russian aviation officials believe that it is too early to make a firm conclusion, since the investigation is still underway and the context of black boxes has to be analyzed.

Russian President expressed his condolences to the families of victims of the crash, the deadliest ever in the Russian history, and declared November 1 as a mourning day. Hundreds of people all over the world shared the sorrow with the families that did not get to see their loved ones coming back home.

Kazakhstanis and Russian citizens living in Kazakhstan also mourned the tragic death of 224 people. People in Astana and Almaty laid flowers, candles and toys to honour the men, women and children, one as young as 10 months, who died, near the Russian Embassy and Consulate. Some could not hold back their tears.

“I took my son and came here to pay homage to the victims. Of course, it will not compensate for the losses of parents, families and friends. It is very hard to do it. I want my son to know that we should live in unity and friendship. A grief of one should be our grief too,” one of the people, who came to the Russian Consulate General, said.

“I wanted to show that Almaty and Kazakhstan do care about what happens to people in the sky. It is a horrible accident. My condolences to families. No one knows what has happened, but this must not happen at all,” an Almaty resident said.

Astana residents also shared the pain and sorrow of Russian people.  “We thank our Kazakhstani friends for the solidarity and support,” Russian Embassy wrote on Facebook.

Earlier that day, Kazakhstan’s Prime Minister Karim Massimov signed a book of condolence opened for the victims of Airbus 321 crash in the Russian Embassy in Astana. "I express my condolences to the Russian people and the Government of the Russian Federation over the big tragedy,” Massimov wrote.

In the meantime, the first plane with 144 remains of the bodies arrived back in St.Petersburg on Monday morning, the second plane came in the evening. Families of people killed in the crash had to identify the bodies. Russian officials assured that they would work with every family to help them through this painful and difficult process.
