10 citizens of Macedonia have been fined for violating the terms of stay in Kazakhstan, Tengrinews reports citing the press office of the city’s Interior Department.

Migration police detained Macedonian nationals at Astana airport on October 12, because they had stayed in Kazakhstan over a month without proper registration with the migration authorities.

Foreigners entering Kazakhstan are required by the Kazakhstani legislation to register in a migration police department within five days after their arrival.

Those arriving in Kazakhstan through the country's 12 international airports, or Dostyk (Druzhba) railway border crossing at the Chinese border, or land crossings at Khorgos, Dostyk, Bakhty, Maikapchagai, Kordai and Kolzhat, or via the seaports of Aktau and Bautino are registered automatically when crossing the border.

Otherwise, those entering through smaller border crossing points and those who for some reason did not receive a registration card immediately upon arriving in Kazakhstan, are supposed to register with the Migration Police in the city where they are staying within 5 days, because if they don't, they may have to pay a fine when departing and may even be arrested for up to 5 days.

A special administrative court of Astana city found the Macedonian nationals guilty and imposed a fine, each amounting to 30,000 tenge ().

In addition, the host organization was also brought to the responsibility as they had not taken measures to register foreigners on time. As a result, the organization will have to pay 20,000 tenge (around $73 at 1 USD = 275 tenge).

All in all, 2,049 foreigners have been detained since the beginning of this year for violation of migration laws of Kazakhstan under Article 517 of Kazakhstan’s Code of Administrative Offences. 1857 of them were citizens of CIS countries (post-soviet states) and 192 were from further abroad.
