During the meeting, the two sides discussed a wide range of issues in the law enforcement cooperation between Kazakhstan and the United States, in particular, in the fight against terrorism and extremism, drug trafficking, transnational organized crime, cyber crime, money laundering, and other forms of criminal activities.
Askhat Daulbayev and George Krol expressed their satisfaction with the current level of bilateral cooperation. “Kazakhstan's General Prosecutor's Office is actively cooperating with the relevant American agencies based on the principle of reciprocity in combating crime, providing international legal assistance in criminal matters and extradition of criminals,” Daulbayev said.
He also noted that the work was underway to ratify the inter-state treaty on mutual legal assistance in criminal matters between Kazakhstan and the United States.
Daulbayev updated the US Ambassador on creation of the Academy of Law Enforcement Agencies under the General Prosecutor's Office in Kazakhstan and offered to establish a cooperation with a simular institution in the US.
Another important topic discussed at the meeting was the Regional Conference on Cuntering Violent Extremism, which Astana will host this June. The conference is a continuation of the Washington Summit held in February.
The two sides also emphasized the need to strengthen bilateral efforts in the fight against transnational crime and expressed readiness for further development of mutually beneficial cooperation.
