Over 80 of Kazakhstanis eligible to vote have cast their voted in the presidential elections of April 26 by 4 p.m., Tengrinews reports citing a member of the Central Election Commission Tatyana Okhlopkova who presented the update.

By 4 p.m. the voted turnout in Kazakhstan reached 82.11%.

The layout of the voters region-wise was as follows:
Akmola Oblast – 85.72%
Aktobe Oblast – 78.58%
Almaty Oblast - 84.95%
Atyrau Oblast – 87.25%
Eastern-Kazakhstan Oblast – 89.45%
Zhambyl Oblast – 86.04%
Western-Kazakhstan Oblast – 79.01%
Karaganda Oblast – 84.73%
Kostanai Oblast – 86.75%
Kyzylorda Oblast – 87.45%
Mangistau Oblast – 76.15%
Pavlodar Oblast – 82.75%
Northern-Kazakhstan Oblast – 86.93%
Southern-Kazakhstan Oblast – 87.30%
Astana – 70.61%
Almaty – 62.52%

A member of the Central Election Commission Marat Sarsembayev commented on the voter turnout in Almaty and Astana cities being lower that the countrywide average.
“Astana and Almaty are the cities that traditionally lag behind when voting. People there tend to think over and weight their decision before going to the polling station and casting the vote. This must be one of the reasons why these two cities are behind in their vote turnout percentage now. Besides, there are people who have a somewhat oppositional attitude towards the elections, and they are mulling on the thought of whether to go vote or not, and who to vote for, this also takes time,” he said.

Speaking about violations of election procedures a speaker of the Prosecutor General’s Office Nurdaulet Suindikov said that no violations had been committed by any of the member of the election commissions or public bodies in relation to the elections. “There have been only isolated case of violation during campaigning and publishing of results of opinion polls, but those have been addressed in a preventive manner,” he said.
