A resident of the eastern Kazakhstan city of Ust-Kamenogorsk had a bet with his friends and tried to climb an electric wire from one high rise building to the neighboring one, Tengrinews reports citing the press-service of Emergency Situations Department of East Kazakhstan Oblast.
The men were drinking alcohol together when the idea of the bet came up. The climber decided to prove to his friends that he could cover the distance from the apartment building #29 to the building #27 climbing cables. However, he had second thoughts when he was half way through. "When the man covered half of the distance his hands became numb and he started calling for help. His friends called the emergency service and the rescuers arrived almost immediately. It took them several minutes to get the climbed down from the cables," the Emergency Department said.
"The rescuers put an AL-30 extension ladder right under the man's feet, so that he could step on it and climb down," the press-service said.
The incident with the drunken man hanging from a wire between two buildings with nothing but dozens of meters of freefall below happened on January 11 at Protozanova Str.
