Kazakhstan will be supplying fuel pellets to China as early as this year, Kazakhstan’s President Nursultan Nazarbayev announced today, June 13, Profinance.kz reports. “Our cooperation is promising in nuclear industry, notably in joint production of nuclear fuel and construction of a nuclear power station. From this year Kazakhstan will be supplying fuel pellets to China”, President said at a press conference following his talks with Chinese President Hu Jintao in Astana. Late 2010 KazAtomProm completed certification of its uranium tablets to be further supplied to the Chinese market. The pellets are manufactured at the Ulba Metallurgical Plant in Ust-Kamenogorsk (Kazakhstan). State-owned national atomic company Kazatomprom is Kazakhstan’s sole organisation for uranium mining; reprocessing and export & import operations.
