Speaking at the 7th World Islamic Economic Forum, Kazakhstan President Nursultan Nazarbayev expressed confidence that all world religions have to find common language and use Kazakhstan as an example, Tengrinews.kz reports from the Palace of Independence in Astana. “All world religions can and have to find a common language. Kazakhstan, where representatives of 140 ethnic groups and 46 confessions live peacefully, is a bright example of this approach. This is the result of the educational model of Islam adopted by the Islamic community in Kazakhstan,” the President said. Nursultan Nazarbayev talked about the tasks set for the country and ways to fufill these tasks. He emphasized the 12-fold growth of GDP per capita that has reached $9 thousand in Kazakhstan and the country's plans to bring GDP per capita to $15 thousand within the next 5 years. The President also spoke about modernization of the economy through the state program of accelerated industrial and innovative development adopted last year. The plan is to implement over 300 projects totalling over $550 billion in the coming years. As per the President, development of science should become one of the components of the future success. The International University in Astana that will cooperate with world leading universitie will help promote growth of human capital potential and development of economic science. As for investments, none of the former Soviet countries managed to succeed as much as Kazakhstan did in this sector, the President said. “Kazakhstan attracted over $120 billion of direct foreign investments during its independence years. Local investments are even higher,” Nazarbayev said. He noted that Kazakhstan will keep enhancing the efforts to attract capital in future. Creation of the Customs Union and the Common Economic Space with Russia and Belarus opens up a huge market with population of over 170 million people. Besides, as per the World Bank's evaluation, Kazakhstan is the leader by reforms aimed at creating favorable conditions for business. “Kazakhstan has a huge potential for transformation into an intellectual innovative cluster of the region,” Kazakhstan President said. Kazakhstan was the first country in the former Soviet space to adopt a legislation for implementation of the Islamic banking system. The first Islamic bank opened in Kazakhstan last year. “Kazakhstan is actively participating in joint efforts of the global community in security, economic and cultural cooperation. A bright example of such participation is Kazakhstan's chairmanship in the OSCE when our country was the first chair from among the CIS countries,” Nazarbayev said, adding that OSCE Summit was held in Astana for the first time after 11 years. Major priority of that chairmanship was to draw attention of the global community to the problems of Central Asia. Nursultan Nazarbayev expressed his confidence that Kazakhstan “realizes very clearly its responsibility for dynamic and stable development of the region that is an integral part of the Islamic civilization.” The President also said that “currently Kazakhstan strives to prove that the country with prevailing Muslim population is capable of successfully implementing economic transformations and economic reforms.” Nazarbayev said he was confident that the World Islamic Economic Forum in Astana would give a new boost to expansion of cooperation and dialog between Islamic countries.
