Astana will host the first round of UCI Track Cycling World Cup series in November, Tengrinews.kz reports citing President of Kazakhstan Cycling Federation Kairat Kelimbetov. “50 teams will be represented by 500 best cyclists from all over the world on November 4-6. Astana keeps being an important location for such unique events,” Kelimbetov said. Kazakhstan will be represented by a professional track cycling team Astana-Track created in March 2011. The general sponsor of the team is the same as that of Astana cycling team: Samruk-Kazyna Kazakhstan’s Sovereign Wealth Fund. Valeriy Kravchenko was appointed chief coach of the team. Earlier Tengrinews.kz English reported that Kelimbetov is planning to support a famous cyclist Aleksandr Vinokurov as a candidate for presiding over the Kazakhstan Cycling Federation.
