Kazakhstan’s Foreign Minister Erlan Idrissov and his Russian counterpart Sergei Lavrov have discussed cooperation between the two nations, including in nuclear industry, Tengrinews.kz reports. “We have discussed a wide range of issues related to nuclear industry. The two sides intend to work along the whole fuel cycle, taking into account the Kazakhstan’s capabilities of the Ulba metallurgical plant [engaged in production of hi-tech uranium, beryllium and tantalum products for the needs of the nuclear power industry]. There is an agreement to launch a joint center to enrich uranium; we hope to bring the agreements to life”, Mr. Idrissov said at the talks with his Russian counterpart in Astana. He also noted that “Kazakhstan relies on Russia’s support to the West Europe – West China transcontinental corridor (…) development of infrastructure along the West – East and North – South vectors serves long-term interests of both nations”, he said. “We have agreed to accelerate prep works to hold the 10th forum focused on cooperation of near-border regions to be held in Russia’s Ekaterinburg in November. We have also discussed an important document – the Agreement on good neighborliness between Russia and Kazakhstan in the 21st century – to be signed at the forum. The document is 95% ready. The two aspects we discussed today should be thrashed out shortly (…)”, the minister said.
