Kazakhstan's gold-winner of the 2012 London Olympics Zulfiya Chinshanlo has married a Chinese citizen, Vesti.kz reports.
The athlete registered her marriage in Almaty several months ago. According to her, she met her husband a long time ago, they used to do weightlifting together in China. While she was in Kazakhstan they only met during vacations and communicated via the internet the rest of the time.
In autumn 2012, right after she won the Olympics, the Chinese media started a pressure campaign reporting that Olympic champion Zulfiya Chinshanlo was going to leave Kazakhstan national team and had already taken Chinese citizenship again (Zulfiya Chinshanlo is Chinese born). But she denied having any such plans and showed her Kazakhstan passport to the media and refuted all the rumors.
She was not the only 2012 Olympic champions to get married after the Olympics. Ilya Ilyin got married in 2012; Maya Maneza got married in 2013, so as Svetlana Podobedova. Maneza gave birth to a child this year and Olga Rypakova had her second child.
