Kazakhstan doesn’t exclude supplies of natural gas to Romania through the Yznyi potok (Southern Stream) gas pipeline, Ukaraine’s ukrinform.ua reports.
“Location of Romania, as well as its EU membership are the key factors for Kazakhstan to expand and consolidate its positions in the European energy market. Kazakh Government’s suggestion to supply gas to Romania through the Southern Stream pipeline is feasible”, Talgat Kaliev, Kazakhstan’s chargé d'affaires in Romania, said in Bucharest.
Mr. Kaliev elaborated that Romania-based Rompetrol, part of KazMunaiGas Kazakh National Oil Company, already possesses a substantial part of energy assets in Romania, Bulgaria, Serbia, Ukraine, Turkey and France.
According to him, Romanian companies’ contribution to construction of an oil treatment facility in the north of Kazakhstan and an oil refinery in Pavlodar will be an important factor to strengthen energy cooperation between the two countries.
Issues of energy cooperation were on the agenda during the recent visit of Romania's Prime Minister Victor Ponta to Astana and his talks with President Nursultan Nazarbayev.
