French Finance Minister Christine Lagarde is planning to visit China, India and Brasil to get their support for the elections to the top IMF post, BBC News reports. EU member-states are sure of Lagarde's victory. She was already supported by Germany, Sweden and Italy. Recently she was backed by US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton. Meanwhile, Brasil, Russia, India, China and South Africa are against appointment of a representative of a European country. The International Monetary Fund head Dominique Strauss-Kahn resigned after being accused of sexually assaulting a maid in New York hotel. Kazakhstan’s Prime Minister Karim Massimov suggested Gregory Marchenko as a candidate to head the IMF at the Summit of the CIS (Commonwealth of independent States) Heads of Government in Minsk. The Council supported his candidacy. The new director will be appointed on June 30.
