Kazakh citizens to be warned of emergencies via billboards

Kazakhstan citizens will be warned of emergency situations via billboards. Ministry of Emergency Situations and Ministry of Communications and Information are planning to create a notification system that would be independent from media, Tengrinews.kz reports. Emergency Situations Minister Vladimir Bozhko gave a speech in the Senate on May 27. He said that a new system of communications and notifications is being created. It is expected that communication and mass media legislations will be amended to allow media outlets and operators to take part in emergency situations warnings. Bozhko said that a so-called pool of media and speakers is already being created. Besides, Bozhko talked about plans to create a notification system that will work independently from the media. Following Russia's example, this system may inlcude electronic billboards on the city streets. The Emergency Situations Ministry is thinking about developing clear procedures for state authorities to follow to prevent spread of misinformation or misleading rumors. Vladimir Bozhko said that the Ministry will launch a new website in the beginning of July. The webside is said to include new technical features. Over 4 billion tenge ($27.4 million) will be required to create the new notification system, Bozhko said. Kazakhstan emergency situations notification system was last modified in the end of 1970.
