Winners of the semi-final of the 2nd competition of screenplays within the ASTANA International Action Film Festival have been announced, the festival’s Director Iren Vanidovskaya said May 25. The Festival is organized by Timur Bekmambetov, a Russian director of Kazakh origin, producer and screenwriter who has worked on films and commercials. He is mostly popular for the Russian film Night Watch (2004) and its sequel Day Watch (2006), and the American film Wanted (2008). “The winners of the semi-final from the Kazakhstan’s side are Abat Nagmet – «Almaarsasan Maiden»; Rustam Mukhit – «Crossing the line»; Galiya Baizhanova – «While Everybody at home»; Yerzhan Yessimkhanov – «Territory 17»; Vitaliy Kistanov – «Day of the Contract»; Dmitry Chernobay – «Aqua OPS: Nuclear Armageddon»; Bahtiyor Kadirov – «Beyond one Day»; Elman Suleimanov – «When the Poppies Bloom»; Aituar Nugmetullin – «Moment»; Alexander Kassymbayev – «The Asclepius». They will be joined by semi-finalists from other countries: Arustamov Vartan, «Motopsycho», Russia; Paul Bertino, «Bad Dogs», USA; Russel Davidson, «Sewer», UK; Gennady Ratkofsky, «Al and E.T.», Russia; Lachezar&Ivo; «Tontatchev»; Sergey Evstigneev, «Our Mutants», Russia. The Script Contest is an opportunity to win creative partnership with Timur Bekmambetov's Bazelevs. The contest is held at the Second Annual Astana Action International Film Festival. Bekmambetov's goal is to find and train the best, most talented and dedicated filmmakers and screenwriters. From the 1st through to the 5th of July 2011, during the Second Annual Astana International Action Film Festival, the five best projects in the action genre will be awarded and shown in theatres. The winner will receive 10,000 USD and the possibility of developing the project together with the production company of Timur Bekmambetov. Bazelevs, founded by Bekmambetov, produces commercials and films, some of which have made it to the top of the Russian distribution list like "The Irony of Fate. Continuation", "Night Watch", "Day Watch", post-production of the “Wanted”, "Black Lightning" and “Yolki” («Six degrees to celebration»).
