Significant raise of gas prices is possible in several regions of Kazakhstan by 2015, Chairman of Samruk Kazyna Sovereign Wealth Fund Timur Kulibayev told KazTAG. “The only outstanding issue we have is equation of prices with Russia. When joining the Common Economic Space we have signed an agreement on that. This is a difficulty for us, as it may cause a sharp and significant raise of gas price by 2015,” he said during the Government sitting on May 17. As per Kulibayev, Atyrau, Uralsk, Aktobe and Aktau cities might face the prices raise. “The social issue should be reviewed in these regions,” he said. Minister of Oil and Gas Sauat Mynbayev confirmed that there are certain obligations to coordinate gas industry pricing policy with the Russian Federation. “It is clear that gas price on the local market may face a small raise, but it will always be lower than in the European markets and even the Russian Federation,” he promised. “Delivery of gas to the local market will remain a priority,” the Minister added.
