89% percent of Kyrgyz power consumed by Astana

430.5 million kW/hours of electric power was exported to Astana from Kyrgyzstan; this accounts for 89 percent of the total amount of electric energy exported from Kyrgyzstan, Tengrinews.kz reports. “From the beginning of 2011 Kyrgyzstan state company Electric power stations exported 482.13 million kW/hours to Kazakhstan. As per the protocol of Kyrgyzstan-Kazakhstan intergovernmental negotiations, 430.5 million kW/hours were exported to Astana,” press-service of Electrical power stations reports. Kazakhstan is the only buyer of Kyrgyz energy. Kyrgyzstan government is planning to expand to other markets. Negotiations are in process to construct electric power lines and export energy to Pakistan and Afghanistan. Kazakhstan is planning to increase import of electric energy by mid 2011. An respective agreement was made during a visit of Kyrgyzstan Prime-Minister press-service's official to Kazakhstan.
