Track-and-field: Kazakhstan's ex-doping-suspect starts participating for summer competitions

Kazakhstan track-and-field athlete Olga Tsykunova (maiden name Tereshkova) will start participating in tournaments as early as this summer, Vesti.kz reports. “Olga has given birth to a baby girl and has already resumed her training sessions. It is likely that we’ll see her performing at competitions this summer,” Alexey Kondrat, vice-president of Kazakhstan Track-and-Field Federation said. It was reported in August 2011 that Tsykunova, who was the leading Kazakhstan’s runner tested positive for testosterone. Kondrat said that intense physical activity and frequent flights must have caused the testosterone excess. Athlete’s pregnancy might have also caused a problem with her hormones. Later the athlete testified that she took no forbidden drugs. “The investigation is over yet. No forbidden drugs were found in my blood. My hormones were out of order and that’s why the test was positive. I am planning to return to sport after I give birth to my child. I am going to win the Asian Games that will be held in South Korea in 2014. I will have plenty of time for my rehabilitation.
