Astana will most probably win the race to host EXPO-2017, a source in the International Exhibitions Bureau told KazTAG.
“Of course, the decision will be made by voting in the General Assembly today (November 22), but the chances of your capital are high for two reasons. The first reason is Kazakstan's theme -- Energy of the Future -- that is relevent for most of the countries now. The second reason is that Astana is a new unexplored territory, which is attractive,” the source said.
“There is no doubt that Belgian Liège (Astana’s competitor for hosting the exhibition) has its advantages. On the one hand, it has the experience of hosting such events. On the other hand, Liège is in the center of Europe,” the speaker said.
Kazakhstan submitted its bid to host EXPO-2017 in Astana to the General Assembly of the International Exhibitions Bureau. Kazakhstan President Nursultan Nazarbayev, chairman of Kazakhstan organization commission, Vice-PM Kairat Kelimbetov and Astana Akim (Mayor) Imangali Tasmagambetov have already arrived in Paris for presentation of Kazakhstan’s project.
