Kyrgyzstan will face serious problems with transportation of energy from the south to the north of the country, should Kazakhstan withdraw from Central Asia common energy grid, Tengrinews.kz reports citing head of the technical department of Electric Power Stations Kanyrbek Omorov. “This will be a force-majeure. If we are unable to deliver the commodities, energy in this case, we will consume less of it. Northern regions of Kyrgyzstan will face a power deficit. And a solution of this issue will depend on governments of the neighboring countries,” Omorov said. Kazakhstan plans to withdraw from the Central Asian common energy system because Uzbekistan has been illegally using energy from the grid. Uzbekistan owes around $20 million to Kazakhstan. Multiple trilateral negotiations have been held between power engineers of Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan and Uzbekistan, but have failed to yield any results so far. In this relation, Kazakhstan is persistently preparing to withdraw from the energy grid. As a result, northern regions of Kyrgyzstan will suffer first. The power transmission line that could be used for transportation of energy from the south to the north of the country is still under construction.
