Kazakhstan General Prosecutor asks court to declare Innocence of Muslims an extremist movie Snapshot of Innocence of Muslims movie

Kazakhstan General Prosecutor’s office has asked the court to declare Innocence of Muslims movie an extremist film inspiring religious hatred, the authority’s press-service told Tengrinews.kz. “On September 2012 the prosecutors initiated legal proceedings to declare Innocence of Muslims movie an extremist film inspiring religious hatred, ban its import, reproduction and distribution at the territory of Kazakhstan,” the press-service writes. The case is being reviewed by Saryarka Regional Court of Astana. Earlier Kazakhstan Agency for Religious Affairs stated that it did not perform a check into the Innocence of Muslims. Asked whether the movie should be considered extremist in Kazakhstan and whether access to YouTube should be blocked to prevent distribution of the movie, chairman of the authority Kairat Lama Sharif said: “We have not received this material yet. If we get it, we will perform a religious check.” Earlier Innocence of Muslims was declared extremist in Kyrgyzstan. Bishkek’s court satisfied General Prosecutor’s request to tag it an extremist material and ban its reproduction, copying and distribution. Innocence of Muslims was released in the US by this year's anniversary of 9/11. The scandalous American bishop Terry Jones, who earlier publicly burnt Koran, was involved in creation of the movie. The movie caused a wave of protests in Islamic countries. Muslims protested in Egypt, Yemen, Sudan, Tunisia, Pakistan and Bangladesh. On September 11 the protesters stormed U.S. embassy in Benghazi, Libya, and murdered 4 embassy workers, including one American ambassador.
