One of eligibility criteria for candidates is to gain support of at least 1% of voters evenly representing voters of Astana, Almaty and two thirds of the country's 14 oblasts. In an interview for Tengrinews.kz Zhambyl Akhmetbekov said he was thinking of resorting to social networking sites to gain support. Notably, he intends to start a profile with Moi Mir (My World), a popular Russian-language social networking site. He said that to bring through some of his ideas, he needs “support of the young”.
