Kazakhstan to write off old passenger planes by November 2012

Kazakhstan is going to give up old passenger planes by November 1, 2012, Tengrinews.kz reports citing Kazakhstan Minister of Transport and Communications Askar Zhumagaliyev.
"All the aircrafts, not approved by ICAO (International Civil Aviation Organization) in terms of safety, and these are the Soviet-made planes, will be written off before November 1, 2012," the Minister told Majilis deputies.
He also stated that Kazakhstan would buy up to 40 airplanes in the nearest 8 years.
"Not only Air Astana will be buying the planes, but SCAT and other companies as well. Having considered your critical notes, these aircrafts will be owned by the companies. Speaking of the fleet, we currently have a fleet of over 50 good airplanes," Zhumagaliyev said.
