The head of Kazakh National Space Agency Talgat Mussabayev considers that KazSat-1 disappointing experience is connected to his predecessors' unprofessional approach, Tengrinews.kz reports. “There are plenty of high-class enterprises, specializing in different space vehicles in Russia. They [Mussabayev's predecessors] have chosen Khrunichev Space Center, which is Russian rocket-space shield. High-end rockets are made there. Rockets, not satellites. There is a difference,” Mussabayev said in his lecture at the Eurasian National University on April 19. Also he said that the first satellite was not lost, and that the stories about the satellite's disappearance are media fiction. "KazSat-1 is at its former place orbiting the Earth. It just stopped responding, stopped working, but it is not lost. Journalists wrote that it flew away and disappeared. But it is still in place,” the head of the Space Agency said. KazSat 1 is the first Kazakh space satellite launched on June 18, 2006 by Proton-K rocket. It is a communications satellite produced by Khrunichev Space Center. The control of the KazSat was initially lost in July 2008 and completely lost in October 2008.
