Grandson of Manush jazz founder to perform in Almaty

A grandson of the famous guitarist and founder of Manush jazz style Django Reinhardt will perform at the annual jazz festival in Almaty, Tengrinews.kz reports. Opening of the festival has been entrusted to the French band David Reinhardt quintet to commemorate the Year of France in Kazakhstan. "Manush is a mixture of several styles. It includes gypsy and classic music. All that is made in the jazz framework, as if jazz has frameworks. This is like accordion, entrance to the so-called dance ball. I am going to save this openness and continue the tradition started by my grandfather," Reinhardt said. Participants of the press-conference dedicated to the opening of the international jazz fest also discussed a possible new name for the festival. "American ambassador came up with Jazz from A to Z symbolizing jazz from Armstrong to Zaripov (Tagir Zaripov is the founder of jazz festival in Almaty)," the project's manager Karlygash Makatova said. "But we can call our festival very simple: the international jazz holiday, as this is a real holiday for Almaty residents." Makatova also said that the UN declared April 30 the World Jazz Day. This year it will be celebrated in Istanbul. However, she said that Kazakhstan musicians would not take part in the event. The annual jazz festival will be held on April 3-5 in Almaty. The jazz fest will include performances of musicians from France, Holland, Hungary, Austria, the United States and Turkey. Besides, Almaty residents will get a chance to listen to Kazakhstan jazz performers. David Reinhardt quintet and Mike del Ferro will be the first to perform on the first day of the festival. The second day will start with performances of Austrian The Mary Poppins and will be continued by Hungarian K.Basco quartet. American Misha Tsyganov trio and Turkish Bari Duyarlar quartet will close the festival. The jazz fest will be held in Zhambyl State Philharmonic Hall at #23 Tole be street (corner of Kaldayakov street) in Almaty.
