The naval forces of Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan and Russia will take part in joint exercises in the framework of their international military cooperation, Tengrinews reports citing BNews.kz.

The information was shared by Colonel Igor Gorbul, head of the press service of Russia’s Southern Military District.

"Trilateral joint exercise of the naval forces of the Caspian states will be held for the first time in June and July 2015 in the middle part of the Caspian Sea. The Russian Navy will be represented by a detachment of the new ships of the Caspian Flotilla consisting of a small artillery and two small missile ships "Makhachkala", "Grad Sviyazhsk" and "Uglich," he said.

The exercises will include tasks like protecting sea lanes and maritime areas of economic activity and elements of the joint navigation and maneuvering. The three countries will also work on artillery fire on sea, air and shore targets, the colonel said.

Gorbul added that the crews would also conduct search and rescue training operations and exercise in assisting a vessel in distress.
