Sonic cannons are going to be deployed in London for the Summer Olympic Games that will be held on July 27 - August 12, Tengrinews.kz reports, citing Interfax-Kazakhstan. The USA-made long-range acoustic devices can be used both as very powerful loudspeakers and to emit a directional sound wave that is very painful for people. This signal previously used to disperse aggressive grounds and violators in other countries of the world. The acoustic cannon can generate a sound beam of up to 150 decibel. Sounds of 130-decibel and up are painful for people and hardly bearable. For example, a similar device was used against Somali pirates. The USA made use of this device to disperse rallies in Iraq and Georgian police used it to break up antigovernment demonstrations in 2007. British Ministry of Defense announced that these acoustic guns will be deployed for the Olympic Games. They will be used in loudspeakers mode to stop the navigation on the Thames River during the Games. Polish police also announced that it is ready to use it against people in case law and order is threatened during Euro-2012 matches that will start in June.
