Kazakhstan’s President Nursultan Nazarbayev discussed military cooperation with UK Defence Secretary Philip Hammond February 27, the President’s Press Service reported. “The two nations have maintained close political and economic ties. We have celebrated the 20th anniversary since establishing diplomatic ties between Kazakhstan and Great Britain. The forthcoming visit of the UK PM David Cameron to Kazakhstan is of prime importance to the Kazakh side. Among other things we are developing defense cooperation. Our military personnel are being trained in Great Britain”, the Press Service quoted President as saying. “I am glad to discuss strengthening and further expanding of the military cooperation between the UK and Kazakhstan as well as issues of regional security”, the Russian-language version of the President’s website quotes Philip Hammond as saying. According to the President’s Press Service, peace keeping efforts take an important place in the military cooperation of the two nations, including through the Stepnoi Orel (Steppe Eagle) international drill.
