Kazakhstan policemen to get non-lethal weapons

Kazakhstan policemen will be armed with additional non-lethal weapons, Tengrinews.kz reports citing Kazakhstan Interior Minister Kalmukhanbet Kassymov. The Minister made this statement answering the question of one of his blog’s readers: “I would like to ask you a question related to the latest tragic events in Zhanaozen. Is Kazakhstan Interior Ministry planning to buy special non-lethal weapons for minimization of civil victims in case of clashes?” Gennadiy Mironov asked. According to Kassymov, Kazakhstan Interior Ministry is currently working on additional armament of the officers with non-lethal weapons that are highly-effective against lawbreakers and allow to disperse aggressive groups of people at a good distance without any harm to their health. “The budget for 2013-2015 will include additional funds for purchase of the said weapons,” Kassymov added.
