Kazakhstan and Spain enhance military cooperation

Kazakhstan and Spain are enhancing cooperation in defense industry. TDefense Ministers of the two countries countries Adilbek Dzhaksybekov and Pedro Morenes Eulate met in Astana, Tengrinews.kz reports. They discussed enhancement of the bilateral military and military-technical cooperation and exchanged opinions on a broad range of issues of global and regional security. Besides, the discussion covered Kazakhstan’s active participation in the peacemaking operations in partnership with other countries and organizations, including North-Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO). Enhancement of the bilateral cooperation in defense industry was the key issue of the talks. “Kazakhstan attaches great importance to development of relations with Spain. There is an active political dialog between our countries, the economic cooperation is developing and Spanish companies are successfully implementing joint projects at the territory of Kazakhstan, including in military-technical sector,” Dzhaksybekov said. Kazakhstan and Spain already have a successful experience of interaction in this sector. Kazakhstan army’s aviation fleet received its first military aircrafts C-295M manufactured by Airbus Military in January 2013. Kazakhstan Engineering National Company plans to set up facilities for maintenance of the supplied C-295 and A-400M aircrafts based on the aviation technical center that is being constructed in Astana. Besides, Indra Kazakhstan Engineering joint company was established in Almaty jointly with Indra Sistemas, S.A. for production, final assembly, repair and maintenance of radar stations, electronic warfare, intelligence systems and other military-purpose electronic equipment. In the end of the talks the parties signed an inter-authority memorandum on military and military-technical cooperation and defined the directions of further enhancement of cooperation between military companies of the two countries, discussed implementation of new joint projects and participation of Spanish companies in the next exhibition of armament and military-technical property KADEX to be held in Astana in 2014.
