Over two thousand militarymen are taking part in the brigade combat exercises of the Airmobile Forces, Tengrinews reports citing the press service of the Ministry of Defense of Kazakhstan.
"The Airmobile troops of the Armed Forces of Kazakhstan began brigade combat exercises. According to the plan of combat training, the exercises will take place between 14 and 18 April, 2014. Overall, more than 2000 troops and more than 500 combat vehicles, of which 100 are armored vehicles, are involved in the exercise," Major General Adylbek Aldabergenov was cited by the press service of the Chief of Staff of the Ground Forces as saying.
According to Aldabergenov, this exercise is special because it is for the first time in the history of the Armed Forces of Kazakhstan that a river crossing with equipment will be held during the night.
"The Airmobile troops will be in full combat readiness and will be deployed to the area of the combat training on April 14, 2014. The exercise consists of several stages. During the march the paratroopers will work on command, cooperation and coordination and exercise in crossing of the Ili River at night. The units of Airmobile Forces from four garrisons will march for many kilometers in three ways," the press release informs.
Before making a crossing the units will conduct reconnaissance of the area to determining the presence of any enemy forces. Engineers will start mine sweeping the river banks. And in the meantime, helicopter-borne paratroopers will land in the rear of the paper enemy.
"Later, to fortify the opposite bank and facilitate safe crossing of the main forces, special units will cross the Ili River. Heavy and wheeled vehicles will then cross via a pontoon bridge set by engineering units. On April 17, 2014 during the active phase of the exercise the battalions of Airmobile Forces will conduct combat missions in the mountains, take raiding search operations, and clear identified areas using an unmanned aerial drones," the press service said.
