The 62nd meeting of the Council of Defense Ministers of CIS (Commonwealth of Independent States) countries was held in Kaliningrad, Russia, on July 5, RIA Novosti writes. The meeting covered joint use of the orbital group of Russian Armed Forces to the benefit of CIS armies. “The 62nd meeting of the Council of Defense Ministers of CIS countries will be held on July 5, 2012 in Kaliningrad, Russia, under the chairmanship of Russian Defense Minister Anatoliy Serdyukov. According to the meeting’s agenda, it will cover 28 issues on different directions of the multilateral partnership of CIS defense ministries in the military sector,” representative of Russian Defense Ministry said prior to the meeting. Joint use of the orbital group of Russia Armed Forces and the spacecrafts intended for socioeconomic purposes to the benefit of CIS armies. The defense ministers also discussed development of a joint system of CIS air defense, the schedule of joint trainings for 2013, flights safety, military-memorial work, pension payment to militarymen, social warranties in case their move to another CIS country and a wide range of other issues. “The ministers will also approve the idea of the joint command and staff training called Clear Sky-2012 planned to be held in four stages from October 5 to 16 in Kazakhstan,” press-secretary of the Council’s secretariat said. The meeting was participated by delegations of the Defense Ministries of Azerbaijan (Defense Minister colonel-general Safar Abiyev), Armenia (Defense Minister Seiran Oganyan), Belarus (deputy Defense Minister general-major Mikhail Puzikov), Kazakhstan (deputy Defense Minister Bagdat Maikeyev), Kyrgyzstan (Defense Minister general-major Taalaibek Omuraliyev), Russia (Defense Minister Anatoliy Serdyukov), Tajikistan (Defense Minister colonel-general Sherali Khairulloyev), Turkmenistan (first deputy Defense Minister and head of the General Staff general-major Ismail Ismailov), Uzbekistan (deputy Defense Minister on international affairs general-major Rustam Niyazov) and Ukraine (Defense Minister Dmitry Salamatin).
