61st meeting of the Council of Defense Ministers of CIS (Commonwealth of Independent States) countries was held on November 17 in Almaty, RIA Novosti reports. The meeting was chaired by Russian Defense Minister Anatoliy Serdyukov. According to press-secretary of Russian Minister Lieutenant-Colonel Irina Kovalchuk, the meeting covered over 20 issues of military cooperation of Defense Ministries of CIS countries. The Council focused on creation and improvement of joint (united) military systems. According to Kovalchuk, at the 61st meeting Defense Minister discussed development and content of the united system of monitoring and evaluation of radiation, chemical and biological situation in CIS countires, the united air defense system of the CIS, as well as navigational and survey support of the common management system for CIS Armed Forces.
