Russia’s President Vladimir Putin has supported the government’s suggestion to sign an agreement to create a common regional air defense system with Kazakhstan, RIA Novosti writes.

The negotiations with Kazakhstan will be held by Russian Foreign and Defense Ministries. The talks should result in signing of this agreement. This October the press-secretary of Russian Defense Ministry Lieutenant Colonel Irina Kovalchuk said that the common air defense project between Russia and Kazakhstan would be ready by the end of 2012.

Russia already has a common air defense system with Belarus. A similar agreement will be signed with Armenia, but the system will have a 'joint' status not common, as Russia and Armenia don’t share common borders.

Russia also plans to sign an agreement on a common air defense system with Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan. Earlier preparations for signing of the agreement on a common air defense system with Central Asian region was suspended because of some complications in the negotiations with Uzbekistan.
