Transport engineering has become one of Kazakhstan's new industries thanks to the State Program of Accelerated Industrial-Innovative Development, Tengrinews reports citing Kazakhstan Prime-Minister Serik Akhmetov as saying in a show on KTK TV channel. The Prime-Minister said that plants for production of General Electric diesel locomotives, electric locomotives, Talgo trains and other transport machinery had been launched in Kazakhstan. “When we launched the construction facility for production of General Electric locomotives, many doubted the project’s success. Now the locomotives are sold to other countries. Besides, a plant for production of engines for diesel locomotives is being constructed. After it is launched the localization of the production process will reach 75 percent in Kazakhstan,” Akhmetov said. According to the Prime-Minister, car industry - another branch of transport engineering - is also developing successfully in Kazakhstan. “The plan is to produce around 150 thousand cars assembled in Kazakhstan by 2020. Peigeot will produce 4 models at the plant in Kostanay. Italian cars will be produced by Asia Auto in Ust-Kamenogorsk,” the politician said. During implementation of the Program - with transport engineering being one of its priorities - the export of finished goods grew from $2.3 billion to $4.2 billion, i.e. almost doubled.
