Gas for the Central Kazakhstan will be supplied from Russia, Tengrinews.kz reports. This was announced by Minister of Oil and Gas Sauat Mynbayev during the “government” hour in the Majilis (lower chamber of Kazakhstan parliament). “The project is being considered, the feasibility study has been approved, the design and estimate documentation will be approved by the end of the year. We are talking about building the pipe from Kostanai oblast going through Kokshetau to Astana. Therefore, the gas supplied will be produced by Russia,” the minister said. As Mynbayev clarified, the discussion goes about the exchange of Karachaganak gas from West Kazakhstan for the gas from Russia supplied through the northern areas of Kazakhstan. The pipeline' capacity will be over 2 billion cubic meters. According to the Minster, Astana will not be able to use it all, and some amount will be sent to other cities and regions in central and northern Kazakhstan. Speaking of the cost of gas, Mynbayev said that the question was still open, transportation at market cost would not be feasible. “The final price will depend on the amount the government and others will be spending,” he added. The construction is scheduled to start in 2013 and will take approximately two years. It it worth noting that President Nursultan Nazarbayev specifically mentioned gasification of central Kazakhstan in his State-of-the-Union Address.
