In his new Keynote Address titled Kazakhstan-2050 Strategy published on his official website December 14, President Nazarbayev has tasked his government with coming up with a strategy to develop the country’s agriculture before 2020. “I task the government to adopt a program as early as in 2013”. President has set a goal to boost state support to the agriculture sector 4.5 times, introducing new incentives to run middle-sized and large-scaled farming entities that would implement world’s advanced technology. Besides, he suggests raising land tax rates for lands that will not be properly used for farming purposes after a certain period following obtainment of such lands. President believes it important to define “what export-oriented products should be placed bets on … to tap global markets”. “The measures should result in the share of agriculture in the GDP growing 5-fold by 2050”, he sums up.
