Kazakhstan plans to invest over KZT 1 trillion into its electric power generation industry, a Tengrinews.kz correspondent reports, citing officials speaking at the 7th congress of power engineering experts. “This year alone we plan to attract up to KZT 130 billion. New power generation capacities will make up 400 megawatt. A total of KZT 1 trillion 140 billion is to be invested in the sector by 2015, with new generation capacities totaling 3.7 thousand megawatt”, said Duisenbai Turganov, Vice Minister of Industry and New Technology. The program of power industry development by 2014 seeks to modernize the existing power generation facilities and construct new ones. In three years, power generation in Kazakhstan is to reach 97.9 billion kilowatt-hour, with estimated consumption standing at 96.8 billion kilowatt-hour.
