The number of users of Kazakhstan’s Internet segment has reached 6.5 million people, Tengrinews.kz reports citing Prime-Minister’s official website. “After 9 months of 2011 Internet speed was doubled, wholesale Internet rates dropped 65 percent, increase of Internet users made 34 percent. The number of Kaznet users reached 6.5 million people, the number of domains increased to 62 thousand and the number of views of Kazakhstan websites reached to 12.3 million,” PM's press-service writes. 3G technologies are currently available in Astana and Almaty; high-speed broadband Internet and digital satellite TV are available both in cities and villages. “The plan is that IT and computer sector will be responsible to 3.8 percent of the GDP by 2014, the level of digitization of local communications will reach 100 percent and density of Internet users will make 22 per every 100 people. Over 95 percent of Kazakhstan’s territory will be covered with digital TV and 100 percent will be covered with satellite digital TV,” the press-service states.
