During his visit to Pavlodar Oblast President of Kazakhstan Nursultan Nazarbayev met with the employees of Aksu Termal Power Plant of the Eurasian Energy Corporation (that is part of the ENRC), Tengrinews.kz reports. The President was accompanied by Akim (Governor) of Pavlodar Oblast Bakytzhan Sagintayev and ENRC shareholder Aleksandr Mashkevich. President of Kazakhstan thanked the plant’s employees for the successful launch of the second power generation unit of the plant. “I know this thermal plant well. When it almost halted we all were busy investing to bring it back up. Those were hard times, hard years, but we have succeeded. This plant’s contribution into the economy of the country is huge. And it is growing every year. What makes this launch (of the second power generation unit) so special is that the power generation unit has been restored almost from scratch,” Nazarbayev said. Investments into the thermal plant made around $270 million. All 8 power generation units are going to be restored by 2019. The capacity of the renewed energy generating unit allowed to light up 3.25 million 100W light bulbs and provide the whole Aktobe Oblast and quarter of Almaty City with electric power. “We have launched the programs of Accelerated Industrial and Innovative Development that should lead to the creation of a different economy, the one independent from raw materials. Oil, gold – all this ends up at some point, so we need enterprises,” the President said. Nazarbayev arrived to Pavlodar Oblast with a two-day working visit on August 3.
