Kazakh-language media share at 5.9%

Out of 2700 periodicals issued in Kazakhstan, Kazakh-language periodicals only make up 453, with 2303 being Russian-language. Out of all Kazakhstan’s media, Kazakh-language media only make up 5,99%, a Tengrinews.kz reports, relying on the 2010 report on society development prepared by the Alliance of Analytical Organizations, a voluntary union of research institutions. According to the report, out of 2700 periodicals issued in Kazakhstan, Kazakh-language periodicals only make up 453, with 2303 using Russian language. Besides, a total of 5.2 thousand of newspapers and magazines issued by the Russian Federation are widely available, with only 2.7 thousand of them being duly registered with the Kazakhstan Ministry of Culture. As far as Internet-based media are concerned, only 5.6% of respective web sites offer Kazakh-language content. The state has been trying to support Kazakh-language media. Due to the state assistance, Kazakh-language content in some state-run media exceeds 70%.
