“Fake Coca-Cola“: suspicious liquid found in bottles sold in Kazakhstan

Tengrinews.kz - Counterfeit Coca-Cola products containing a suspicious liquid have been discovered in Kazakhstan after the global company filed an official complaint with the Ministry of Justice.

The investigation began in Shymkent after The Coca-Cola Company reported a violation of its exclusive rights. Authorities confirmed that questionable soft drinks were being sold under the well-known brand at local markets.

“Cases of counterfeit products being sold under the Coca-Cola brand were identified at city markets. The inspection was initiated following an official complaint from the rights holder, which reported the appearance of goods of dubious origin on store shelves,” the Ministry of Justice said in a statement.

Raids revealed that large batches of fake soda were distributed across markets in the city. The drinks lacked authorization from the manufacturer, and their labeling was found to be falsified.

According to the ministry, administrative proceedings have been launched under Article 158 of Kazakhstan’s Code of Administrative Offenses, which concerns the illegal use of trademarks and similar designations. The case materials have already been forwarded to court.

Officials emphasized that counterfeit goods are not only a source of financial losses for brands but also pose a real health risk. Such beverages are often produced in unsanitary conditions without соблюдение safety standards.

Businesses in Kazakhstan have been warned that selling counterfeit products will lead to legal consequences, and similar inspections are expected to continue on a regular basis.
