Moscow-based International Assembly of Capitals and Large Cities (MAG) selected three Kazakhstan cities and awarded them with the Best CIS and EurAsEC City titles in 2011, Tengrinews.kz reports. According to the contest's results, Astana received an award for E-ambulance project that equipped ambulance vehicles with modern navigation and information equipment. Kazakhstan’s capital also won the first prize for development and implementation of the project called Today's School of the Future that uses information technologies for improvement of the educational process. Besides, the city won the award for creation of conditions for development of innovation technologies for initial development of small companies and for holding technical audit for evaluation of development of the city’s companies. Almaty won only in one nomination. The city received the prize for investments in the city’s economy. Aktau won the title for successful application of the Roadmap anti-crisis program in employment and city beautification, as well as for provision of the population with kindergartens and for overhauls in residential buildings with the use of modern energy-saving technologies. In 2010 MAG tagged Uralsk one of the most well-furnished cities of CIS. It won in Complex approach to city beautification category. Besides, Shymkent was tagged the best CIS city for cleanness of the yards, buildings, garbage disposal and preparedness for the heating season.
