Kazakhstan’s Agriculture Ministry has reduced the anticipated grain exports figure to 11-12 million tons, Newskaz.ru reports, citing Ms. Anna Buts, Head of the Crops Farming Department at the Agriculture Ministry. According to her, as of April 1, 2012 Kazakhstan exported a total of 8.4 million tons, including 5.6 million tons of grain and 2.8 million tons of flour. The grain was mainly exported to Central Asia nations, “over 90 000 tons were supplied to China”. “Should we find enough vacant grain carriers, we may unleash the full export potential, that is 15 million tons. In March Kazakhstan exported 930 000 tons. This month Kazakhstan Temir Zholy National Railways Operator has announced that we may be 1 million tons behind the plan (…)”, Ms. Buts said. She emphasized that “if grain supplies had stayed at the planned 1.2 million tons a month, we would have unleashed the whole potential”. “In the current marketing year we plan to export a total of 11-12 million tons of grain”, she summed up. According to the State Agency for Statistics, grain production in Kazakhstan in 2011 totaled 26.9 million tons (net weight), with exports potential standing at 15 million tons.
