Tengrinews.kz – Belkin has announced a recall of a popular Apple Watch accessory due to the risk of fire and possible explosion, according to the Daily Mail.
The model is the BoostCharge Pro Fast Wireless Charger for Apple Watch + Power Bank 10K with model number BPD005, released in May 2023.
The danger of the device
The accessory is a wireless charger with a portable battery function. According to Belkin, the problem is a defect that can cause the device to overheat, increasing the risk of fire and even explosion. Users are urged to immediately stop using the charger, unplug it from the mains or other devices, and contact the company for further instructions.
How to recognize a dangerous device?
To make sure that you have this model, check the model number on the back of the device. If it matches BPD005, stop using it immediately.
What should owners do?
Belkin guarantees a refund to all buyers of the device. To receive compensation, you need to contact the company representatives through the official website or contact center.
The product is no longer sold
The company removed this charger from sale back in October 2023, but it is not reported how many units were sold worldwide. The price of the device at the time of sale was $159 (about 80 thousand tenge).
Belkin claims that there have been no cases of injuries or incidents involving this accessory. The company also emphasizes that other chargers or products of the brand are not affected by this defect.
Why is this happening?
The exact causes of the defect are not disclosed, but such problems often arise due to the use of low-quality materials or manufacturing errors. For example, lithium-ion batteries can become dangerous if cracks or impurities appear in them that disrupt the separating film between the positive and negative poles.
This is not the first time that Belkin has recalled its devices due to the risk of fire. In 2021, a recall was announced for the Boost Charge Portable Wireless Charger + Stand Special Edition (WIZ003), and in 2024, Anker recalled MagGo Battery (PowerCore 10K) models due to battery overheating issues.
Important to remember
If you have a recalled device:
- stop using it immediately;
- do not throw the device in the regular trash or recycling bin;
- dispose of the device at specialized lithium-ion battery collection points.
Be mindful of your safety and stay tuned for updates from Belkin.
Earlier, it became known that Apple stopped production of a popular device, causing a wave of indignation and regret among users.
